Have you seen the updated photo of Sling 1132 on Jet Photos? It was taken by our very own, Seb Steele. Seb has recently moved to the UK and is greatly missed at Sea Eagles meetings but keeps in the loop via the Sea Eagles Discord chat.

Safety Matters

Unfortunately there have been further incidents where pilots have not been familiar with the Control Area (CTA) steps around Eumundi (EMI), this has resulted in airspace infringements which are reportable matters.

It is essential that all pilots understand the lateral and vertical boundaries of CTA.

One ‘hotspot’ for infringements is the CTA step that runs from 7 nm to 12 nm to the north west of the aerodrome. If you are at or below 1,500 ft in this area, you are clear of CTA. If you are above 1,500 ft in this area then you are inside CTA and require an airways clearance.

If you aren’t sure, ask an instructor before you fly next. Clearance via EMI is often required to provide separation with parachutes at Stumers Creek, Coolum.

Booking circuits

All pilots are reminded of the need to book circuits via:

https://qld.bookawk.com/day.php?year=2023&month=9&day=14&area=11

Every pilot (including students) should create their own individual login and password for this site. If you have have genuinely not been able to book for a reason such as weather changing your flight plans then calling the tower to request circuit operations is fine. However, general practice must be booked via qld.bookawk.com

Nav Course

Quentin is instructing another ground school Nav Course this week and next. This offering of the nav theory component in the evening has been a welcome addition to our instructing program. The pilot participants are not only gaining the knowledge required to achieve their nav endorsement, they are also sharing experiences, learning from each other and building their aviation networks of support.

Around the Club

Thank you to Horizon, Jet, Jayme, Trev and Naomi for giving the Club a clean last weekend. Our regular cleaner is off work with an injury at the moment and the Club was starting to look a bit shabby.  Thanks to Ben Rodgers for the kind donation of cleaning products and supplies from Tensens.

Here is a photo of Jet and Horizon working on the belly of 1132.

Fuel Pump

The fuel pump continues to be an area of opportunity! Special thanks to Luke Frachia, for his assistance with the fuel pump. Although the pump is currently unserviceable, we are hoping for a speedy resolution following a warranty replacement.

Jag the Joker

John McQueen got us started again for this round of Jag the Joker, he was not successful in his pick of the card so it’s $600 up for grabs this week.

Pool Comp

It’s back on again, this Friday night! We hear some of the AFT students have been practicing for the comp!

AFT event

Last Friday the Club hosted a BBQ for AFT students after their careers information session with the Qantas Link Chief Pilot. Some of our Sea Eagles were fortunate to be able to attend the session to learn about pathways into the airlines. John McQueen did a great job on the BBQ with Brett Adamson from AFT.

Calling for volunteers!

Our Club is what we make it. Over the last 20 years, Aero Clubs have faced many challenges in relation to longevity and not all Clubs have made it through. We are fortunate to be a Club in a fantastic location with amazing facilities at a controlled aerodrome.

It takes a village to raise a child and it takes an engaged community to build and maintain an Aero Club. If you have a spare hour or two a week and you would like to be part of the continuing success of the Aero Club, please reach out to Naomi, Teresa, Trev or Quentin.
