On Tuesday we celebrated International Women’s Day here at the Aero Club with a number of members from across the Sunshine Coast Aviation Industry. It was a great way to celebrate achievements, efforts, and ways we can continue to #BreakTheBias. With colleagues from the Aviation Industry, Air Services Australia, Aerospace, Pacific Crown Helicopters, Helitec Australia, McDermotts Aviation, Flight Options, Com Sol , Sunshine Coast Sports Aviators, Tafe QLD, ARFF, CASA, and Ripper Pilot/Surf Life Saving Queensland to name a few . We combined International Women’s Day with an Aviation Careers and Pathways Expo. A special thank you to Nikki Greentree from The Sunshine Coast Airport for all her arranging of the luncheon and to Naomi McQueen for putting together a great group of enthusiastic Aviation industry representatives to make the day a great success.

“The Clifton Fly-In Breakfast planned for this coming Sunday has had to be postponed.
The 350 mm of rain in the past week has made the airfield very wet, with most soaking in and giving good underground reserves.
Unfortunately, this has made the ground extremely heavy, especially for take-off. You would not need any brakes for landing I can assure you as we currently have an inbuilt arrestor hook for your aircraft.
Also in respect of all the other GA and RAAus aircraft that have been affected by floodwaters (RAAus estimated some 60-80 aircraft in Southern Qld and North NSW alone), we feel attendance will be very low, and those not affected will be helping affected friends.
We are going to reschedule – date to be advised.” Naomi McQueen shares her experience from a two-day AusHIMS Peer Supporter Workshop held at Qantas, Sydney last week. I felt privileged to be invited to join the course; the content and presenters were informative and engaging. However, for me, the best part of the two days was spending in-person time with a group of inspiring aviation professionals whom I have been meeting with virtually for the last 11 months; our group was pretty thrilled to meet up for our weekly ‘Birds’ support meeting in-person and under the engine of a B747! AusHIMS is a program to support people in safety-sensitive areas of aviation who are recovering from substance abuse disorders. CASA AvMed are engaging in the program, this makes me hopeful that we can work together towards improved health outcomes for those suffering from problematic substance abuse/mental health issues. Andrew O’Meally, President of AusHIMS will be speaking at our Club BBQ on Sunday 20th March. Andrew is currently a Qantas FO on the A380 after flying BA146, B737, B767 and B747 aircraft. Andrew also spent a number of years prior to Qantas in GA and flying charter ops in Papua New Guinea. I’m looking forward to hearing more about Andrew’s journey.
http://www.boaf.org https://www.aushims.org.au  Nick Polsen, Qantas B737 FO, returns to the Aero Club at 6pm, Thursday 17th March for an emerging pilot group mentoring session. The session will be best suited to those who are looking at pathways to employment as they approach the final stages of their aviation training. Nick will be joined on the 17th by another Qantas B737 FO, Danny Melville. Danny grew up on the Sunshine Coast and, before joining Qantas, he was a flight instructor teaching cadets in Melbourne. Nick started his career in GA and has flown Cessnas, Metros, and C441s working for scenic companies, in Government charters, and within Aero Rescue Ops. Nick has also flown as a FO on B717s and is a B787 Type Rated Instructor and Second Officer.
This will follow on from the Sea Eagles meeting at 5 pm. Dates to Remember
